Cardiff scored a goal in each half to see of Hereford.
Kevin McNaughton gave Cardiff the lead in the 45th minute. Steven Thompson then gave Cardiff a 2-0 advantage when he slotted home the penalty in the 67th minute.
Hereford scored a consolation through Theo Robinson in the 77th minute.
