John Arne Riise – The own goal specialist

John Arne Riise has the nick of scoring own goals of late. Riise’s own goals comes from big matches and important ones to.
Against Luton Town in the FA Cup, Riise found the Liverpool net to give Luton the equalizer and brought it to a replay to Anfield which Liverpool easily won 5-0.
On 22/04/2008, Liverpool was cruising in their 1st leg semi-finals tie against Chelsea thanks to a Dirk Kuyt goal. In the 95th minute, Riise did the craziest thing he could ever imagine by gifting Chelsea the equalizer and an away goal for Chelsea to bring back to Stamford Bridge.
After the equalizer, Riise fell to his knees immediately. Hard to blame him totally as Anelka was lurking behind him and don’t forget he is a left footer. I guess, he thought it was safer for him to head the ball away for a corner rather then clearing the ball with his right foot! An unlikely savior for Chelsea in a match which Liverpool dominated.
Not only that, Riise is also arrested yesterday by the police on the M62 as Riise was heading in the wrong direction! Bad luck…
After that bizzarre incident, some quarters also asked whether should Riise move to another club?
The positive sign of this incident is that, Liverpool players support and really behind crest fallen, Riise. So the return leg will be interesting where will Riise become from zero to hero? We will soon find out a couple days time.
