Knowing that anything then a victory over Portsmouth will leave Manchester United trailing Arsenal in the EPL, my oh my, United responded really well by defeating Portsmouth 2-0 at Old Trafford.

Once again, Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brace in a space of three days to see off the challenge of Portsmouth.

Ronaldo’s two goals were number 26 and 27 of the season and it is only 60% through the season. It is a scary fact as Ronaldo is only a winger and not a striker!

United first goal came in the 10th minute when Nani sent an inch perfect pass to Ronaldo to slot the ball easily passed the on rushing David James.

Three minutes later it was 2-0 United. Ronaldo’s free kick whistled passed the stranded James from 25 yards out. Stunning goal it was. Vidic later said that Ronaldo’s free kick was the best goal he has ever seen live!

Even the owner of Man Utd Blogstayed up just to watch Ronaldo’s magnificent strikes.

Even Sir Alex Ferguson shared the same sentiments with Vidic.

Ronaldo almost scored a hat-trick when an identical free kick four minutes later, only for James to deflect his effort to safety.

United had many chances to increase their lead but Nani, Rooney and Park Ji Sung all missed their chances.

All in all, a good performance by United but the man of the match tag surely belong to Ronaldo.

Another good news for Ronaldo is that Ronaldo promised pay rise if he gets 30 premier league goals. Possible? With Ronaldo, anything is possible!
