Who says that facing West Ham United will be a walk in the park for Manchester United ? Last season our billion dollar babies were defeated by 1-0 at Old Trafford and this season also lost a valuable 3 points against them at their home ground.
A victory over West Ham is essential to our title success due to the pressure given by Chelsea after their victory over us last week. The bad thing is Alan Curbishley is one manager that has been given us a lot of trouble recently.
Curbs has gained a maximum 9 points out of the three meetings he had with Alex Ferguson since the former Charlton Athletic gaffer took charge of West Ham. He gained his first victory against Sir Alex’s team in a West Ham colour on his debut replacing Alan Pardew last season.
The success secret of the former Birmingham City midfielder is that he always tells his team to perform a pragmatic, non fancy football when it comes to face Manchester United. To match up United’s dominating midfield, Curbs will send both Hayden Mullins and Scott Parker to play at the same time regardless that both of them are a typical holding midfielder with a mediocre ball passing and vision attribute.
And for their attack, Curbs will instruct his team to play with a long diagonal ball passing. This tactic will not require their wingers to hold the ball for a long time, and all they need to do is to pass a long diagonal pass to a solo striker which will be played by Bobby Zamora.
Bobby Zamora is a physical striker that has great athletic ability and control when it comes to air balls. This is why Curbs believes that the mixture of his players is the perfect mixture to face Manchester United.
The best solution for us to face that kind of team is to make as many shots from outside the box as often as possible. With that, our midfielder will not have to dug deep into their box and we will have better anticipation for their counter attacks.
So it is better for Manchester United to put Paul Scholes as starter rather than Anderson. Scholesy is well known for his long range effort while Anderson hasn’t made a single shot on target from outside the box so far this season.
Our strategy to face Curbs pragmatic tactics will be essential for our double title ambition this season.
