Real Madrid qualified to the Last 16 with an amazing last minute goal. Alicante had been pushing them against the ropes during the entire second half.

The first match of 2008 at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium was indeed a cracking encounter between Real Madrid against Alicante which resulted to a 2-1 victory for the home side.

Real Madrid started of with Dudek on goal, Sergio Ramos and Heinze played as centre backs and Michel Salgado and Marcelo was at full backs.

Real Madrid deservingly took the lead in the 30th minute from a shot by Robben as the goal was the first as a Real Madrid player. Higuain crossed the ball in the box and Robben scored with a half volley.

Alicante equalized in the 62nd minute when Borja finished off a cross by Alvaro from inside the box. 1-1 and if the scorelines stayed, Madrid is out of the tournament.

Guti was surely the savior for Madrid when he curved beautifully into the goal in the last minute to give Madrid a spot in the Last 16 of the Copa del Rey tournament.
